How to Assembling the Saxophone

02-08 2019

  1. Take out the saxophone neck and mouthpiece, slowly rotate the mouthpiece left and right, and insert it into the cork of the neck to about 3/4 depth (adjust as needed for proper tuning). Note that if insertion is difficult, a small amount of cork grease can be applied to the cork, but do not apply excessive force as it may damage the cork.
  2. Loosen the ligature screw, slowly rotate it left and right, and insert it into the neck. Adjust the mouthpiece to the appropriate angle, then tighten the ligature screw. Note that if insertion is difficult, a small amount of cork grease can be applied to the joint. When inserting the neck, do not apply pressure to the octave key with your hand.
  3. Dampen the reed slightly and place it on the mouthpiece. Ensure that the reed is aligned with the front end of the mouthpiece and horizontal centered, then tighten the ligature screw. Be careful not to over-tighten the screw, if over-tightened, better slightly loosened them.
  4. Hang the saxophone strap hook onto the strap ring, gently pull to test if it is secure, and adjust the strap length by holding the saxophone. Pull down to lengthen the strap, push up to shorten it. The best length should position the tip of the mouthpiece at a parallel height to the user's lips.
  5. Once the above steps are completed, you can begin playing. If the pitch is too high, gently pull the mouthpiece out a bit; if it's too low, push it in a bit. Note that external temperature and the instrument's own temperature both affect pitch, so adjust accordingly. Image
